In which we introduce an idea
So here’s the thing.
I’ve toyed off and on with doing a newsletter like this for a while, but could never really nail down what I wanted it to be about. Random thoughts and musings? Pieces I’ve written that haven’t been able to place anywhere? And then it hit me (or rather, it came courtesy of a very thoughtful suggestion from one of my Twitter mutuals):
I’ve gone somewhat in-depth on this before on Twitter dot com, but after stumbling through the achievement of an undergrad degree in English lit however many mumble mumble years ago, I was super burned out on reading. Semester after semester of reading for class (which I LOVED) also meant that when it came time to pick up a book for pleasure, I had (to quote the illustrious David Lynch) next door to zero interest. It took being several years out of higher education plus a local chapter of a romance novel book club, and those two elements — paired with the acquisition of an e-reader that allowed me to travel with ALL THE BOOKS EVER — made it possible for me to rediscover a love of reading again.
These days, my book tastes sort of run the gamut — if you follow me on Twitter, you know I mostly talk a lot about romance novels with a smattering of other genres mixed in. Sci-fi, horror, fantasy, general fiction, non-fiction and memoir — you name it, there’s a good chance I’ve read it (or at least dabbled in reading it). But I’ve noticed that when it comes to recommending books, Twitter isn’t the best platform for it, and I’m talking about so many books these days that it just makes sense to put all my recs in one place for my (and your) convenience. (Seriously, this is just as much to keep me organized as it is to maybe, hopefully, introduce you to some reads you’ve never heard of.)
Why the name “Kissing Books,” you ask? Well, I want this to be an extension of my Twitter feed, but a place where I can go more in-depth on what I’ve been reading in a way that hopefully piques your interest too — and yes, most of them will probably be romance, but even the ones that aren’t will likely have some level of smooching in them because that’s just how I roll these days.
So if this sounds like something you’d be into in any way, shape or form, put your email into that handy text box below and we’ll give this thing a shot! Right now, I’m aiming to have a new recs list out every Thursday, so let’s see how good I am at sticking to my own deadline. I PERFORM BEST UNDER MILD AMOUNTS OF SELF-APPOINTED PRESSURE.
In the meantime, I’d be eternally indebted if you made the very smart decision to tell your friends about this newsletter (if you think they’d be interested)!
Kissing Books is a weekly newsletter about, well, exactly what it sounds like, plus other non-romance novels that might have varying levels of smooching in them. Questions? Comments?
